SKIJORING RULES: 2010 TalviTohinat
1. BIB DRAWING & MANDATORY MEETING
a. Drawing for the starting order shall be by team size: 2 dogs and 1 dog.
b. Late entries shall be added in order of receipt, regardless of the number of dogs being run. The bib drawing shall be held at 11:00 a.m. on the day of the race.
c. Starting order and times will be posted by 11:30 in the dog staging area. Absolutely no entries will be accepted after 11:30
d. All skijorers must be present for a mandatory prerace meeting to be held at 11:30pm at the starting line.
2. TEAM SIZE
Skijoring teams shall consist of max. 2 dogs and a min of dog.
3. EQUIPMENT
a. Skijoring teams must be attached via harness and tow-line to the skijorer’s belt in a safe and secure manner, leaving the skijorer’s hands free of the line.

3. EQUIPMENT
a. Skijoring teams must be attached via harness and tow-line to the skijorer’s belt in a safe and secure manner, leaving the skijorer’s hands free of the line.
b. The line length shall be a minimum of 7 feet and a maximum of 12 feet as measured from the skier’s belt bucklet to the snap of the dog’s harness.
c. The minimum width of the skijoring belt across the back shall be 3 inches. In the interest of safety, there must be a quick release device within arm’s length of the skijorer.
d. All dogs must have a neckline attached except for a dog run in single lead position.
4. STARTING
a. The tips of the skijorer’s skis shall determine the starting point of the team.
b. Skijorers not in the start gate at the time specified in the offical start list shall start after all other dogs in the respective class (sport or expert regardless of the number of dogs) have started. Their start time will, however, be that specified in the official start list.
5. PASSING
a. When overtaking another team, the skijorer must call “TRAIL”
c. The minimum width of the skijoring belt across the back shall be 3 inches. In the interest of safety, there must be a quick release device within arm’s length of the skijorer.
d. All dogs must have a neckline attached except for a dog run in single lead position.
4. STARTING
a. The tips of the skijorer’s skis shall determine the starting point of the team.

b. The slower team must relinquish the trail and assist the passing team if necessary.
c. When neither team is able to pull away from the other, the skijorers shall agree on the appropriate lead out time.
6. FINISHING
The finish time shall be measured when the lead dog crosses the finish line.
7. SKIJORER’S RESPONSIBILITIES
a. Skijorers are responsible for the conduct of their dogs, handlers and representatives during and after the race.
b. The skijorers are required to report all violations of race rules and regulations to the Chief Race Judge or an Assistant Race Judge.
c. Any musher who knowingly fails to comply with all race rules and regulations will face disqualification or time penalty depending on the nature of the violation as determined by the Chief Race Judge.
c. When neither team is able to pull away from the other, the skijorers shall agree on the appropriate lead out time.
6. FINISHING
The finish time shall be measured when the lead dog crosses the finish line.
